Hardy Frame Special Moment Frame receives CPRP approval

Currently the only pre-fabricated Special Moment frame connection to receive Panel prequalification

The Hardy Frame Special Moment Frame (HFSMF) is the first, and currently the only, pre-fabricated steel Special Moment Frame (SMF) system for light frame residential, multi-family and commercial construction that has been approved by the American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) for inclusion in AISC 358 – a national standard for Prequalified Connections for Special and Intermediate Steel Moment Frames for Seismic Applications.

The HFSMF incorporates SidePlate special moment frame connections and Hollow Structural Section (HSS) beams. The SidePlate connection technology is relied on for use in high importance structures such as hospitals, air-traffic control towers and high rise buildings. The HSS beams provide superior lateral resistance, and unlike other moment frame design, does so without the need of lateral bracing of the beam.

Approval of the HFSMF came after an extensive review process by AISC’s Connection Prequalification Review Panel (CPRP) – a nationally recognized committee consisting of prominent engineers, fabricators and academia, all of whom are experts in their respective fields of steel construction, design, and/or testing.
